Artificial intelligence, misinformation, online scams, privacy concerns, and social media have transformed what it means to be a digital citizen. As trusted community institutions, libraries are increasingly helping patrons navigate these challenges while also grappling with questions about acceptable technology use, online behavior, intellectual freedom, and digital literacy.

What role should libraries play in teaching digital citizenship? How can librarians promote responsible technology use without becoming the "internet police"? And how can staff create policies, guidelines, and programs that support healthy online participation?

This webinar explores the evolving role of digital citizenship in libraries and communities. Participants will learn practical strategies for strengthening their own digital citizenship skills, developing patron education efforts, and creating policies and programming that encourage respectful, informed, and responsible technology use.

Carrie Rogers worked a decade in public libraries and was named the 2013 Utah Librarian of the Year. After leaving libraries, she founded a mission-based company that trained tens of thousands of students, parents, and educators around the world. Carrie continues her work around technology, ethics, AI literacy, and safety through the nonprofit Digital Citizenship Foundation.

Carrie is the author of nine books, with more in production. She was named to ALA's 2021 Outstanding Reference Sources List for her title Serving Teens and Adults on the Autism Spectrum: a Guide for Libraries. She is currently editing an academic series with Bloomsbury on digital citizenship for libraries and schools.

Carrie lives in Utah with her family and serves as a full-time faculty member at a public university while continuing her consulting, nonprofit, and writing work.
