Many library professionals assume that receiving grant awards begins with writing proposals, when in reality the most important work happens long before anyone starts writing. Join this informative webinar to learn:

  • the difference between grantwriting and grantseeking
  • where to start looking
  • all of the steps for grantseeking success
  • how various staffers can help with this collaborative process
  • tips for making your grant proposals stand out

When we all engage in collaborative grantseeking, partnership development, and community-relationship-building, we reap results beyond accessing external funding. Grantseeking leads to increased visibility, more obvious relevance in our communities, and long-term sustainability of libraries.

Presenter

Bess de Farber serves as grantseeking and collaboration development consultant at ASK Associates, Inc. She has provided collaborative grantseeking training to thousands of library staff, nonprofit and academic professionals, artists, and university students in the past 36 years, and has led efforts to secure millions for nonprofits and academic libraries. Her course, Collaborative Grantseeking for Library Staff, is ALA’s first self-paced online course. Bess is the author of Collaborative Grant-Seeking: A practical guide for librarians, and Creating Fundable Grant Proposals: Profiles of innovative partnerships. She's also coauthor of Collaborating with Strangers: Facilitating workshops in libraries, classes, and nonprofits. She is currently working on a new book about why grant proposals fail.
