With the recent implementation of updated ADA Title II regulations, public university libraries must transition from aiming for digital inclusion to actively orchestrating it. This session goes beyond basic web audits to explore the full lifecycle of a library’s accessibility ecosystem. Speakers will demonstrate how to build a resilient accessibility plan that bridges the gap between public-facing websites, complex institutional repositories (IRs), and inter-departmental workflows. Public librarians will benefit too.
Participants will discover how to shift from reactive remediation to proactive governance. We will dive into the "boots-on-the-ground" reality of managing multiple web properties, utilizing AI software tools for bulk PDF remediation, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to establish enforceable compliance policies.
Attendees will learn how to:

Presenters
Emma May is the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), where she focuses on special collections cataloging, electronic dissertations and theses, and intuitional repositories. She received her B.A. from Texas A&M University and her M.L.S. from the University of North Texas.
Marcella Fredriksson is the Web & Discovery Services Librarian at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). She received her B.A. from Boston University and her M.S.L.S. from Catholic University. Her research interests include bias in search, algorithms, and AI, as well as improving the usability and accessibility of library websites and the library search experience.
