In a society where individualism and independence are praised, it often leaves little space for people to express their need to feel connected. Isolation has become the norm, with remote work, digital dependence, and the decline of social infrastructure like clubs and organized gatherings. To ask for belonging can make people feel like they are codependent and can be embarrassing. But a library is in a perfect position to combat loneliness and to provide more in-depth connection. To be intentional means to be strategic in helping prevent loneliness and isolation.
