Join us as we explore how to transform your library into a restorative environment for students or patrons through the evidence-based principles of biophilic design. We will discuss research linking natural environments to library-user well-being, share practical strategies for implementing biophilic elements across your building, and walk through a real-world case study from Proctor Library at Flagler College, including the creation of the Robbins Serenity Garden Reading Room.
Presenter
Trina McCowan Adams is the Director of Library Services at Flagler College's Proctor Library. Previously, she managed Florida State College at Jacksonville's Library & Learning Commons and served as Assessment Librarian at the University of North Florida. These roles deepened her data-informed practice and her commitment to libraries as transformative campus infrastructure. With nearly two decades in academic library management, Trina's interests span the ethical adoption of AI, data-informed library services, OER, and biophilic design. Her current work sits at the intersection of user experience, evidence-based design, and student well-being. She has become a passionate advocate for biophilic design as a framework for reimagining library spaces, leading a whole-building design transformation at Proctor Library that includes the Robbins Serenity Garden Reading Room. She has shared her research and practice at ALA, FACRL, and beyond.
